Making sure your child has dental insurance is one of the best investments you can make in their oral and overall health. Instead of waiting until they’re older to bring them in to see a dentist, starting them out early will only establish better habits they will carry into adulthood. At Purdy Pediatric Dentistry, we are an insurance-friendly children's dental practice in Bakersfield, and we want parents like yourself to worry less about the cost and instead focus more on the health and future of your child’s smile. If you’re unsure whether we welcome your plan, call our office today to speak to a member of our team.

Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

Dental insurance is different from medical insurance, as it focuses on prevention. Regular dental checkups and cleanings, fluoride treatment, X-rays, and even restorative care, like tooth-colored fillings, dental crowns, and pulp treatment are often covered in full or in part by dental insurance.

These services are deemed medically necessary by insurance companies because of their ability to improve and restore your child’s oral and overall health.

What Does My Dental Insurance Cover?

No two plans are alike, but they can often share similarities when it comes to the breakdown of coverage. Your benefits might look something like this:

  • 100% coverage for preventive services (i.e., dental exams, dental cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatment, dental sealants, etc.)
  • 80% coverage for minor restorative treatments (i.e., tooth-colored fillings, simple tooth extractions, etc.)
  • 50% coverage for major restorative treatments (i.e., dental crowns, pulp treatment, etc.)

If your child needs orthodontic treatment, you’ll need to review your plan to determine if coverage is available.
