Get to Know Joe Curtin, DDS

Dr. Curtin has been at Purdy Pediatric Dentistry in Bakersfield for over 15 years and has been practicing dentistry since 2002. To this day, he loves helping kids build great oral hygiene habits and giving them the tools they need to take care of their smiles for life. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Curtin wanted to find the perfect career fit for himself while he was in college, so he made an effort to attend different club meetings and hear different people from other professions talk, from doctors to dentists. In the end, he decided he wanted to become a pediatric dentist!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Curtin completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University and attended Ohio State University for dental school. Following earning his dental degree, he finished a year-long General Practice Residency at Ohio State as well as a two-year Pediatric Dental Residency at the University of Minnesota. During his training, he focused on diagnosing, treating, and screening young children for developmental dental problems, which provided him with a wealth of knowledge and a keen eye for detail.
Today, Dr. Curtin remains board-eligible by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, as well as an active member of several other professional organizations, including the:
- American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
- American Dental Association
- California Dental Association
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Originally from Akron, Ohio, Dr. Curtin now lives near Bakersfield with his family. Outside of the office, you can find him going on runs, reading, hiking, and going to concerts and sporting events. An interesting fact about Dr. Curtin is that he started ice skating at the age of three and played hockey growing up in all of the northern states, and even Canada!
