Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide or laughing gas, as it’s more widely known, is a safe and effective solution that can help your child’s mild dental anxiety subside during an appointment. Its fast-acting effects allow them to quickly become more comfortable while in the treatment chair, even feeling slightly warm and sleepy. Nitrous oxide is not designed to render your child unconscious but instead will help them remain relaxed while still being able to respond to dental cues. When treatment is over, the effects will dissipate within minutes, allowing them to resume normal activity immediately following their appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If your child is struggling with a moderate form of dental anxiety or requires multiple treatments to be administered during one appointment, we may suggest oral conscious sedation. If so, we will give a liquid medication when they first arrive for their appointment and will wait for an appropriate amount of time, so your child will feel more comfortable once in the dentist's chair. Throughout the appointment, they will remain conscious; however, they may doze off. Once finished, they may be unable to recall much from their visit and will need to rest for the remainder of the day.
